Five WHS Juniors to Attend American Legion Boys State

Willis High School is proud to announce that American Legion Post 618 in Willis has selected five juniors to attend Boys State in June 2022 at UT Austin. With the help of solicited funds, all five students are being sponsored by the Willis post to attend this year’s program.

According to Paul Brouse, Post Commander, the legion strives to select the best candidates, saying, “We are looking for the next President of the United States.”

American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. Boys State has been a program of The American Legion since 1935. Prominent past attendees include President Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, and former U.S. Army General Wesley Clark.

At Boys State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, duties, and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical with city, county, and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices. Activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, chorus, and recreational programs.
