    Board Selects Superintendent Search Firm

    The Willis ISD Board of Trustees met in a special meeting Nov. 30 to consider and take possible action regarding the superintendent search process. In a unanimous vote, the board hired legal consultants David Thompson and Mike Moses of Thompson & Horton, LLP. The firm laid out a timeline for the process, which is variable and can take four to six months.

  • New Resource Officers

  • Willis ISD Earns a Superior FIRST Rating

    A public meeting concerning the FIRST rating was held prior to the regular board meeting October 19. Garrett Matej, assistant superintendent of business and finance, presented the report, which is for data from 2021-2022. Willis ISD has received a rating of Superior for many years.     Willis ISD Welcomes New Teachers to District

    Willis ISD welcomed its newest teachers today at its annual New Teacher Academy! Teachers were greeted by interim superintendent Tom Crowe, who spoke about educators' lasting impact on students and the methods these individuals employ to ensure student success. Mr. Crowe called on all educators present to visualize their favorite teachers in their minds and determine what unique qualities they had that created such strong influence. He shared that this visualization is key to becoming a great educator.

  • Free / Reduced Meal Application - ONLINE!

    Free & Reduced Meal Price applications for the 2023-2024 school year are now available online at: www.schoolcafe.com, or through the Willis ISD Child Nutrition page at www.willisisd.org Completing an online application ensures faster meal benefits. A new application must be completed each year. Meal benefits from the 2022-2023 school year will continue for 30 days after the first day of school or until a new application is processed. Meals will be charged at full price beginning September 28th, unless a new application is completed. Only one application per household needed.

    Teachers and Administrators Attend PLC Conference

    This week, nearly sixty Willis ISD teachers and administrators traveled to San Antonio for a Solution Tree conference focused on Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and the Response to Intervention (RTI) method. “I had the pleasure of attending this conference with Willis ISD this week. Watching teachers and administrators come together to create learning communities throughout the district is rewarding and exciting,” said Tom Crowe, Superintendent. “We expect our students to learn, and likewise we must expect our teachers and administrators to learn and grow. Student learning is dependent on educator learning.”

  • Willis ISD Selects Former Superintendent for Interim Role

    Tom Crowe was named Willis ISD’s Interim Superintendent at a special board meeting on July 18. Crowe served as the principal of Willis High School from 1989 to 1991 before taking on the title of superintendent from 1993 to 1997. He will begin his new role Monday, July 24. Crowe will serve as the district’s leader until a permanent superintendent is selected.

  • STAAR 2023 Reporting Timeline

    The spring 2023 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) has been redesigned to align closer to classroom instruction and the unique ways students learn. Reporting final test results for the redesigned STAAR will take a bit longer this year because educators from across the state will meet to provide their expert opinions on the passing scores for the redesigned assessments.
