  • Students Win Top Spots in SHSU Art Contest

    WHS students recently competed in the Sam Houston State University Art Contest, "Kindness Matters." The students took the following places for the 9-12th division out of 46 submissions from New Waverly, Huntsville, Conroe, and Willis. 1st place – Heidi Jones, 2nd place – EiNola Potts, 3rd place – Juliana Hernandez, Honorable Mention – Skyler Horton. Their artwork will hang in the Education center at Sam Houston State University for one year. Pictured is Heidi Jones, 1st Place Winner.

  • Board Approves Chad Smith as New Principal of WHS

    Willis ISD is proud to announce the hiring of Chad Smith as principal of Willis High School for the 2022-23 school year. Smith has 24 years of service in public education, with 19 years in administration as both an assistant principal and principal at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels. Most recently he served as a central office administrator in Tomball ISD. While principal at Tomball Memorial the campus was recognized by US News & World Report as one of the top-performing schools in the Houston area.

  • Two Willis Class of 2018 Students in the News

    Two Willis High School Graduates from the Class of 2018 are in the news this week for their success in their respective sports.Andrew Rivera will make his professional boxing debut this Saturday, April 30 at 6 pm at the Lone Star Convention Center. He will take on Theo Greenidge of Klein in the super middleweight division. Brandon Birdsell, who is a right-hand pitcher for Texas Tech, has been named the top pitcher in the Big 12 for the second time this season.

District News

  • District Accountability Rating Released

    On Friday, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) released state accountability results for school districts across Texas. Willis ISD schools received an overall grade of 77 on academic performance, earning the district a rating of C. The district earned a C in 2018 when the accountability system first began but had progressed to a B in 2019, prior to the pandemic. Schools did not receive ratings in 2020 or 2021. The district improved or performed the same in 12 out of 20 tested areas.

  • School Safety Top Priority in Teacher Trainings

    Willis ISD teachers returned to campuses Monday, Aug. 1. At the top of the list on every agenda is safety. Every year Willis ISD trains teachers on critical incidents. This year the training includes a student drill portion. Additionally, this summer the board approved the addition of a constable, bringing the number to nine, and ensuring that all campuses will have an officer housed on campus or within one mile.   • 22-23 Event and Stadium Policies

    Willis ISD is implementing several NEW safety policies this year pertaining to athletics and fine arts events. ALL sporting, fine arts and other district-wide activities will all require CLEAR BAGS for entry. These go into effect starting with Meet the Kats Friday, Aug. 5 at 7:30 pm at Yates Stadium.     STAAR Results Reporting: EOC's posted June 16; Grades 3-8 will Post Fri., June 24. Visit your child's PSS account on a desktop computer (not mobile device) and click on "Tx Assessment Parent Portal" next to your child's name. Click headline above for more details regarding accessing results.
