Willis Wildkat Wrestling 2018-19
The Willis Wildkats had a tremendous season this year. The team finished with over 100 victories in individual matches. The boys won thirteen duals and the girls won 15 duals this past season. This sets a new record for the wrestling team. The Willis Wildkat boys and girls finished District 11 5A in 3rd place. The Wildkats had 14 regional qualifiers finishing in the top 11 and 5 State qualifiers setting a new record for points scored in the State meet with 20 points. Finally, we had one state medalist Olivia DeGeorgio. She placed 5th in the 95lbs weight class and had a tremendously successful season.
The Wildkats hosted two tournaments this year. The Wildkat Invitational attracted 17 teams from around the Houston area. The Invite was a tremendous success with support from the parents and the administration of Lynn Lucas Middle School. The District 11 5A tournament was also held at Lynn Lucas Middle School. Our students represented the community of Willis well in both tournaments.
Our team is very young and very talented. We are saying goodbye to three seniors this year. Justin Daniels, Alyssa Murillo, and Alyssa Garza will be graduating this year and leaving a legacy for our young Sophmore and Freshman team. Both Garza and Murillo are past District Champions and State qualifiers. Alyssa Murillo earned the first ever State medal in Willis history.
Our team grows every year and we are looking forward to 2019-20 season. We would like to thank our community for its support and thank our wrestling family for everything they have done for us in the past four years.
