Mr. Hetherington Story
My name is Hetherington Story and I am happy to introduce myself as the Earth & Space Science and AP Physics Teacher for Willis High School.
A bit about me, I am a professional Geophysicist with both my Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Geology from the University of Mississippi. While working toward my Masters Degree, I became interested in teaching as a lab instructor and teacher's assistant for the majority of our geology curriculum. After graduation, I worked in the Oil & Gas industry as a wellsite geologist, a lab geochemist, an operations geologist, and as a geophysicist.
This year I am teaching five sections of Earth & Space Science and one section of AP Physics I.
I believe in educating students about all of the opportunities available to them in the physical sciences. I try to make my topics both interesting and engaging while keeping a real world focus and understanding. I feel that if students see a subject as relevant to their lives, they will retain a greater percentage of knowledge.
All school rules and policies are also the policy in my class.
Please make sure you have reviewed the handbook.

Due to the COVID-19 School Shutdown, we will be concluding this class by focusing on Mastering Physics and taking two online exams. For the final 8 weeks, we are required to assign four daily grades and two major grades. To account for these I will be assigning 4 Chapters of mastering Physics for you to complete for your daily grades. Two of these chapters will be new material and two will be review. I am selecting the two review chapters due to the change in the AP Test material. I will also be loading each module with all information, videos, tutorials I have access to. You do not need to go through each one, these are just to help you in learning the material. Only Mastering Physics and the online exams will be used as a grade.
For the new material, we will be focusing on Chapter 10: Energy and Work and Chapter 14: Oscillations. We will be testing on Chapter 10 as it is vitally important for the test. Chapter 14 will just require completion of Mastering Physics.
For the review chapters, I will be assigning Chapter 3: Vectors and Motion in Two Dimensions and Chapter 5: Applying Newton's Laws. Your exam for these two will come from Chapter 5.
** I will also be opening Mastering Physics for all other relevant chapters for those who wish to practice. These are NOT required.
Topics relevant to 2020 AP Physics 1 Exam:
- Circular Motion & Gravitation
- Simple Harmonic Motion
- Torque & Rotational Motion
Topics Not Included in 2020 AP Physics 1 Exam:
- Electric Charge & Electric Force
- DC Circuits
- Mechanical Waves & Sound
We are required to make sure you are each making suitable progress in your online learning so we are required to set some hard due dates. You will have three weeks to complete each 2-chapter unit and take the online exam. Each week you will be expected to make significant progress on the chapter and I will be checking progress at the beginning and end of each week and calling home if no advancement is made. DO NOT PLAN ON WAITING UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO COMPLETE THESE ASSIGNMENTS, NO EXTENSIONS WILL BE GIVEN.
