Ladykat Volleyball Playoffs

The Ladykats defeated Waller Tuesday to become the Regional Quarterfinal Champs. The team will now take on Kingwood in the Regional Semifinal game at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at Houston ISD's Delmar Fieldhouse.

CTE Groundbreaking

Willis ISD held an official groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the new Career & Technology Education Center on Wednesday, Oct. 11. The 112,950-square-foot CTE Center, along with an Agricultural Science Center is set to open with the 2018 school-year.

Former Board Member Honored

Willis Independent School District honored former board member Beverly Vornsand at the Board of Trustee meeting Wed., Oct. 12. An educator for more than 30 years, Vornsand served on the board September 2007 through November 2016 and as board secretary November 2012 to November 2014.

Students of the Month

Willis ISD is proud to announce the district’s October Students of the Month. The elementary honoree is Michael Negrete-Moradel, a first-grade student at Turner Elemenary; and the secondary honoree is Misael De Los Reyes, an eighth-grade student at Lynn Lucas Middle School.

MVP Named at Board Meeting

Willis ISD has named Virginia Nickerson, longtime Willis ISD employee, as the district’s October MVP. Nickerson is the administrative assistant in the Athletics department. The district made the announcement in front of a full stadium crowd during Homecoming week. A video tribute was shown before the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees on Wed., Oct. 12.

Rules for Student Attendance at Home Events

Friday night football games bring large crowds to Yates Stadium. While we have numerous administrators and security in attendance at events, the size of the facility and number of spectators diminishes our ability to safely supervise unattended students. To ensure the safety of students, parents and community members, Willis ISD will continue the rules enacted last year.

April 2018 Student Holiday Date Change

Recently the Texas Education Agency announced that the April 2018 STAAR test administration window changed. This would have meant our students would have a holiday the day before a STAAR Test. Therefore, we have moved the student holiday/staff development day from April 9 to April 16. Below is the NEW schedule of events for April, including the Montgomery County Fair week.

April 9-13: STAAR testing window (school in session all 5 days)
April 11: Board of Trustees Meeting
April 16: STUDENT HOLIDAY/Staff Development (replaces the April 9 holiday)
April 16-20: Montgomery County Fair Week
