No Make-Up Days Required

Willis ISD closed schools due to bad weather Jan. 16-17, 2018. District administration has verified that there are enough instructional minutes built into our academic calendar that students will NOT be required to make up the two missed days.

Top High School Students Named

Willis High School has named the school's academic leaders. Ten seniors received the coveted academic letter jacket with their names on back. The top 20 juniors and top 25 sophomores received blankets and cups, respectively. Congratulations to these high achievers!

Two Students Make All-State Band

Congratulations to Ashley Vargo and Matthew Nell, who were selected to perform at the Texas Music Educator Association’s All-State Music Ensemble being held as part of the annual TMEA Clinic and Convention Feb. 14-17 in San Antonio at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

Willis ISD Celebrating School Board Recognition Month

January is School Board Recognition Month and Willis ISD is joining other districts across the state to thank these community volunteers for their commitment and contributions to our public schools. Willis ISD board members include President Cliff Williams, Vice President Sue Ann Powell, Secretary Robin Sproba and members Christen Arnold, Rebecca Broussard, Kyle Hoegemeyer and Michelle Bischof.

“Board members work tirelessly, and without pay, to serve the students and staff of Willis ISD,” said Tim Harkrider, Superintendent. “Board members play a valuable role in helping district administration make important decisions for our students and schools, and we are so lucky to have board members who truly value the history and success of Willis ISD.”

Willis ISD will host a meet and greet reception prior to the meeting on Wed., Feb. 14 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. to honor current and former Willis ISD School Board Members. Please join us in the boardroom at the Cargill Education Administration Building at 204 W. Rogers.

December Students of the Month

The district named the December Students of the Month during the board meeting Dec. 13. Jemma Denley, a 3rd grade student at Cannan Elementary, was named the Elementary Student of the Month.

Morgan Hoffart, a Junior at Willis High School, was named the Secondary Student of the Month.

Congratulations to these two hardworking students for setting the example and being bright stars in Willis ISD.

Mary Gregory Named MVP

Willis ISD has named Mary Gregory as the district’s December MVP. Gregory is the Principal’s Secretary at Parmley Elementary. According to Calandra Lewis, Principal, Gregory is the go-to-person for almost everything on the campus. In addition to handling all the office matters, she also finds time to mentor not only students but fellow teachers, as well. Gregory has been at Parmley for 12 years. Each month, WISD honors educators making a difference within the district. A video tribute was shown before the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees on Wed., Dec. 13.
