Willis ISD is proud to announce the April elementary and secondary Students of the Month. The elementary honoree is Kandon Trotter, Turner Elementary; and the secondary honoree is Unity LaRouche, a senior at Willis High School.
Trotter was nominated by his 3rd grade teacher, Debbie Szymczak, who described Kandon as a student who comes to school with a smile and a hug for his teachers everyday. Szymczak stated he works hard in all academic areas and is a great role model for other students.”
Journalism teacher and UIL Coach Emily Meachen nominated Unity for the award. Among many other accolades, Unity is ranked number one in her senior class, is involved in UIL, newspaper, theater, NHS, opera club, young progressives and student council. She is also an amazing artist and has won Grand Champion awards at the fair for her decorated cakes and handicrafts.
Each month, teachers submit nominations to the Teacher Advisory Committee member at their campus. The campus representatives select a finalist for each campus. These nominations are submitted to the communications department for review. Students are chosen based on a variety of qualities, including leadership, citizenship, academics and attendance.
