February is Heart Month

At Willis ISD, we talk a lot about children’s health, but what about moms and dads?  One of the best gifts you can give your child for Valentine’s Day is your health.  Parents, take time to take care of you.  Did you know uncontrolled high blood pressure is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke?   In fact, more than 67 million Americans have high blood pressure.  People with high blood pressure are 4 times more likely to die from a stroke and 3 times more likely to die from heart disease, compared to those with normal blood pressure.   Here are a few things you can do to take control of this disease
  1. Monitor your blood pressure.
  2. Talk with your doctor.
  3. Take your medication regularly.  Do not stop it for any reason without talking with your doctor.
