Tammy Moore, Assistant Superintendent of Business and Finance, made a preliminary presentation of the 2015-2016 Budget which indicated that the new salary scales could be achieved with no increase in the tax rate.
“We continually strive to reward our hard working staff with appropriate salary increases,” stated WISD Superintendent Tim Harkrider. “
In addition to adjusting the teaching scale and approving raises for all employees, Trustees approved the 2015-2016 health insurance plan. The program will remain the same as the previous year with no increased cost to the employee and no reduction of benefits.
“Establishment of the Wellness Center in 2014 allowed us to lower our costs which resulted in this unique opportunity to continue to offer the same health plan for employees,” stated Harkrider. “Not many districts are in that position this year.”
“Our employee package was also enhanced by the Trustees’ approval of another three local leave days to the two which are currently offered,” Harkrider continued.
District employees receive five local leave days from the state of Texas and will now receive five days from Willis ISD.
“Our employees are our most valuable asset as we strive to ensure the success of the children of Willis ISD,” Harkrider explained. “These enhancements to the benefits package are critical to our efforts to attract and retain the qualified, dedicated staff that our children deserve.”
Other action items during the regular board meeting featured approval of:
- Adding a math/science instructional coach at the middle school level.
- Additional security cameras for Lynn Lucas Middle School and Willis High School.
- An application to TEA for a low-attendance day waiver for May 11 when severe storms created power outages and impacted attendance comparative to last year.
The next regular meeting of the Board of Trustees will be Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at 6:00 pm in the Cargill Education Support Center at 204 W. Rogers in Willis.
