Employee Benefits Committee
The Employee Benefits Committee is being established to ensure that Willis ISD’s health insurance program remains sustainable, equitable, and aligned with our commitment to employee well-being and fiscal responsibility.
Rising healthcare costs and changing utilization trends have created financial challenges for many self-funded insurance plans, including ours. To address these challenges proactively, the committee will be tasked with reviewing plan performance, analyzing financial and claims data, and exploring strategies to maintain quality coverage while managing costs responsibly.
Committee Purpose
The Employee Benefits Committee will work collaboratively to:
- Review health insurance fund history and financial data
- Identify primary cost drivers and trends
- Evaluate past updates and their impact
- Explore cost-mitigation strategies
- Compare self-funded and fully insured plan options
- Consider innovative solutions such as plan redesign or wellness initiatives
Committee Membership
To ensure broad representation, the committee will include members from across the District and community, including operations staff, paraprofessionals, principals, classroom teachers, District staff, parents and community members, as well as representatives from the Board of Trustees.
Timeline & Next Steps
Following the review of applications and notification of members, the committee will meet twice in Fall 2025 to review data and develop recommendations:
- Week of October 20, 2025
- Week of November 3, 2025
Findings and recommendations will be presented to the Willis ISD Employee Insurance Committee (WEIC) at the November 20, 2025 meeting prior to presentation to the Board of Trustees at a following meeting.
