• Hello Students,

Each week I will send out an update with information. This one is a little lengthy, but has lots of great information you may need and find helpful.

Things are subject to change, so please be flexible and accommodating. Please reach out to me with any questions or concerns!

Ways to contact me: Email in Canvas, Email to bpayne@willisisd.org, ask your parents to call me.

Below is some information I sent you parents.

    Thank you!

    Barbara Payne

Students: It is very important for you to begin next week completing ALL of your assignments and tasks in each class. Do not get behind. It will be very difficult to catch up with assignments continuing to be assigned.

    Last Week’s Recap & Assignments

I hope each one of you had an easy route to getting online this week. If your student is having trouble, PLEASE reach out to me so we can trouble-shoot before Monday. This week, I asked students to complete 3 get to know you activities. I only received a fraction of the assignments. I am hoping it was students getting into a groove and familiar with the program and they will be ready Monday to get busy. There are still things we are all learning.

    ‘Get To Know You’ Questionnaire

I usually send home a short questionnaire to parents to get to know some information, but with the beginning of the school year a little different I feel it would be best to send the questionnaire out electronically to gather the data. I would really appreciate you taking a few minutes to complete this so I can best serve your student. 'Get To Know You' questionnaire

    Canvas

You can monitor your students' work in Canvas, similar to what parents are able to do in Parent Self-Serve. Go to the bottom of this page to watch the video for instructions https://www.willisisd.org/Page/9474. This is the page where you will sign-up for a parent account  https://willisisd.instructure.com/login/ldap. You will need your student to log-in as per the instructions to get the pairing code. Once you enter the pairing code you can go back to the page to enter your email as the username and your password you set up. If you have more than one child on Canvas you can add additional pairing codes in your settings menus. A nice feature of Canvas is you can also email me directly.

    Math Modules

We are ready to begin our Math Modules. I have published the first few assignments listed below so if you would like to look over them with your student this weekend when you have a little more time than during the week, you may do so. Listed below is the upcoming week’s lessons and assignments.

    Upcoming Assignments

When students go in Canvas each time they should select Modules and they will see a list of items which are published for them to view or complete. Word of caution: Not all items for students to complete are on the ‘assignment’ page.

    Goggle Meet

This week we will begin our Google Meets. For those of you who are not familiar with Google Meets, it is a video conference where we can meet face-to-face online. You can find my Goggle meets link in “About your Teacher” in Canvas or Meet.google.com. To join, use my nickname: bpayne. There is a schedule below with specific days and specific times you may log in. On days when we have in-person instruction at school we would recommend anyone attending virtually attend their specific math class period Google Meets. I understand that some of you will not be online at the scheduled math time and you may attend at another class period time throughout the day. I highly encourage you to log in at a Google Meets time. There will be a whole group session, followed by some small group instruction/intervention.  If you would like to schedule a one-on-one google meet, you may email a request. If there is interest in a few evening Google Meet sessions I will look to set those up (most likely on Tues/Thurs). Please contact me when you need help. I am here to help you!

    Online Expectations

I have attached online expectations for students and helpful tips for parents. It would be helpful if you read over these with your student to help set them up for success.

Beginning of the Year Forms & Parent Self-Serve

The beginning of the year forms are in Parent Self-Serve this year. Go here for instructions on completing the forms. If you do not have parent self-serve yet, go here to get set up. If you have additional questions about getting set up it would be best to call Mrs. Cooper, BMS registrar, for assistance, 936-890-2312. It is tremendously important for information including phone numbers and email addresses to be up-to-date for you to receive information from you child’s teacher and the school.

    Good morning,

We received clarification on attendance today and I wanted to share this information with you.  We are beginning to take attendance by class period EACH day.  In order for your student to be counted PRESENT and avoid potentially receiving 8 phone calls throughout the day from teachers, your student needs to log in to Canvas and go to each of their 8 classes daily by clicking on each class on their Dashboard in Canvas. Any work posted can be done throughout the day/evening, but logging in to be counted present for each day this week would be very helpful if done in the morning.

Teachers will be checking attendance numerous times a day and if we do not see the student logged on we must call parents.  If your student will not be able to log on before 1:00 pm today (that is not a problem) please email me back so that I will have contact with you and can mark them present.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns via email bpayne@willisisd.org or give me a call at 936-228-8085.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

    Barbara

    Hello Parents!

You are receiving this email because I am your child’s Math teacher for the 2020-2021 school year. You can sign into the parent portal and view your child’s schedule at this time. Please feel free to visit each teacher’s webpage to see our virtual “Meet the Teacher'' videos and visit our 'Contact Mrs. Payne page' for instructions on how to sign up for Remind as a communication tool for us.

School starts this Wednesday, 8/12, and student’s should be logging into their Canvas account to complete work on that day and each day moving forward with remote learning in order to be counted as present. The district should be releasing more information/instructions for logging onto canvas, but in the meantime, here is a short how to:

I look forward to partnering with you and your child this school year.  Please click the link for the WISD reopening plan for further information. https://www.willisisd.org/fall2020

I'll be in touch soon for more information!

    Thank you!
