REGIONAL MEET RESULTS 2018
The Willis Cross Country Team had a great performance at the Regional Cross Country Meet on Monday in Huntsville! Senior Emika Sorenson and the LadyKats led it off with their best effort of the season! Emika finished 15th overall and qualified for the State Meet for the second time in her career! She had a great race finishing with her best time over the tough Huntsville course. Without senior number 2 runner Olivia Bean who was out with an injury the LadyKats really pulled together to finish 12th in the field of 23 teams. Cedar Park won the meet. Senior Kaitlyn Drewniok had her best race of the season and pulled our LadyKat pack of Stephanie Keele, Alyssa Geisbush, and Juliana Garcia. The girls finished within 20 seconds of each other!
Seniors Crisely Pavon and Katia Corvarubbias helped the team finish strong.
For the WildKats, their season came down to one point. Senior Jaime Vega, Efrain Lira and junior Carlos Barcenas placed 2nd, 4th, and 5th respectfully giving the team a chance to place high. It was the first time ever that Willis has put three boys in the top 5 at the Regional! Those three have been the heart and soul of the team all season and they came through on the biggest race of the season. But after giving it their all, we still thought the team had finished just outside the top 4 teams and would not advance to state. But when the results were tabulated and posted the boys had finished 4th by one point over Friendswood!! Junior Kebin Guerrero ran his best race of the season to really make a difference for the team. Sophomore Braden Kurtz, and seniors Dillon Douglas, Brian Topping came through over the last mile to help send the team to State! What a great effort by all the boys and girls!
The State Meet is November 3 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The girls will run at 2:45pm and the boys at 3:15pm.

CLEARBROOK INVITATIONAL 9/7/18
The Willis Cross Country Team competed well in the Clearbrook Invitational on Friday. It was a huge meet with 30 teams and over a thousand runners! The course was very tough because of recent rains. The Runnin’ Kat’s did well against some great competition! Senior Jaime Vega took 3rd and junior Carlos Barcenas took 4th to lead the varsity boys. They both ran an excellent time considering the slow course! Junior Kebin Guerrero was 47th and Senior Dillon Douglas was 53rd. Senior Ramon Garcia ran a personal best and placed 76th. Sophomore Braden Kurtz was 95th and senior Brian Topping was 107th. In the varsity girls race senior Emika Sorensen continued her fine season placing 3rd beating some great runners! Seniors Kaitlyn Drewniok was 51st and Olivia Bean was 56th. Freshman Alyssa Geisbush ran well in the jv girls race despite a severely bruised arm from a fall. She placed 11th out of nearly 200 runners! D’Angelo Rojero was the top boy finisher in 45th place. Jose Lopez was the top freshman in 22nd place.
The Runnin’ Kat’s will compete in the Klein Invitational on Saturday September 15.
