On this page, parents and students will find the homework assignments for Mr. Sweet's class.
Every Monday Night, the students will be receiving word study work. Students know that handwriting is also taken into account. We don't ask them to be perfect, but we do ask them to try their hardest to get better. Also, reading is a priority; in this grade, the science (and even some of the math) assignments and tests are heavy on the reading. Please see that your student is reading each night; around 20-30 minutes or so should be good for English students; more for bilingual students. Students will have library books to read, but they should concentrate more on their assigned Book Report books.
Students will not get homework every night. They will be asked to do homework if they do not finish class assignments during the allotted time; they will have to finish them at home. Please urge your student to pay attention, listen well, and stay on task during class.
Students will usually have 0 to 1 homework assignments each night.
There are three types of homework that students might have to do in Mr. Sweet's class:
- The first kind of homework is the weekly WORD STUDY WORK, which is very important for learning English. It will usually be one page each night, but only if the students don't finish it in class. On Monday, students get a list of these words to study for a quiz on Friday.
- The second type of homework is PROJECT WORK, which will usually be a book report or research project they must turn in completed within three or four weeks. It might mean reading for about 20 minutes every night at home. We will always send home instructions to the parents for these types of assignments.
- The third type of homework is UNFINISHED CLASSWORK. This work will only be sent home with students who did not finish their work in class. If the student was paying attention in class and working hard, he or she will not have to do this type of homework.
