  • Students Win Top Spots in SHSU Art Contest

    WHS students recently competed in the Sam Houston State University Art Contest, "Kindness Matters." The students took the following places for the 9-12th division out of 46 submissions from New Waverly, Huntsville, Conroe, and Willis. 1st place – Heidi Jones, 2nd place – EiNola Potts, 3rd place – Juliana Hernandez, Honorable Mention – Skyler Horton. Their artwork will hang in the Education center at Sam Houston State University for one year. Pictured is Heidi Jones, 1st Place Winner.

  • Board Approves Chad Smith as New Principal of WHS

    Willis ISD is proud to announce the hiring of Chad Smith as principal of Willis High School for the 2022-23 school year. Smith has 24 years of service in public education, with 19 years in administration as both an assistant principal and principal at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels. Most recently he served as a central office administrator in Tomball ISD. While principal at Tomball Memorial the campus was recognized by US News & World Report as one of the top-performing schools in the Houston area.

  • Two Willis Class of 2018 Students in the News

    Two Willis High School Graduates from the Class of 2018 are in the news this week for their success in their respective sports.Andrew Rivera will make his professional boxing debut this Saturday, April 30 at 6 pm at the Lone Star Convention Center. He will take on Theo Greenidge of Klein in the super middleweight division. Brandon Birdsell, who is a right-hand pitcher for Texas Tech, has been named the top pitcher in the Big 12 for the second time this season.

  • TEA Announces Delay in Release of STAAR Test Results

    TEA released the following statement June 23: The purpose of this communication is to inform Texas public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools of an adjustment to the release date of the May 2022 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) grades 3–8 student results in the family and analytic portals. As you know, our preliminary plan was to make the data available Friday, June 24. Due to the impact of COVID-19, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is running additional analyses on the data as part of an enhanced due diligence process. Results are now tentatively scheduled to be available next week in the family and analytic portals. TEA will provide another update on the timing of the data release as soon as possible.

  • Dr. Jo Ann Colson Named New Principal of Cannan Elementary

    Willis ISD is proud to announce that Dr. Jo Ann Colson has been named principal of Cannan Elementary for the 2022-23 school year. Colson takes over for Kent Copley, who resigned to move closer to family. Colson comes to Willis with 37 years of education experience - 18 years as a principal and 6 years as an assistant principal. Most recently, she was an elementary school principal for two years in Cleveland ISD. Prior to that, she was a principal in Tomball ISD for 16 years. “We are excited to have someone with the caliber of experience Dr. Colson does join our Instructional Leadership Team,” said Trish Musick, Executive Director of Elementary Schools. “She has a heart for teachers and students and we look forward to her joining our community.”

    NOTICE OF INTENT TO APPLY: In July 2022, Willis ISD will be applying for the following 2022-2023 federal grants: Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Consolidated Grant: Title I, Part A; Title II, Part A, Title III, Part A (ELA), and Title IV, Part A Special Education Consolidated (Federal) Grant Perkins V: Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Parents and the public may provide comments on these grant applications by speaking at the public hearing at the board meeting on July 13, or by clicking the link above to take the survey. The survey will close on June 24, 2022, at 11:59 PM.
