In March 2023, Willis ISD joined a coalition of 250 Texas public schools and education agencies to submit a letter to TEA asking them to reconsider the "Refresh" of the 2023 Accountability Rating System. You can read that letter HERE.
On Monday, September 11, 2023, the Willis ISD Board of Trustees passed a resolution to allow the district to join a coalition of Texas Public School Districts established to challenge the A-F (Refresh) Accountability Rating system. The goal is to halt the publication of all district accountability ratings in Texas for this year due to Texas Education Code requirements not being met by the TEA. The coalition is suing the TEA in pursuit of this goal.
A Travis County judge temporarily blocked the Texas Education Agency from releasing this year's annual school ratings after finding that the state’s new rating system — which was to debut this fall — is unlawful and would harm districts across the state.
TEA has not given an updated timeframe for any potential release of 2023 Accountability Ratings.
