Due to the changing security needs of the educational process, in 2001 Montgomery County Pct.1 Constable Don Chumley created a Special Response Team of nine deputies to handle critical incidents that could occur on school grounds. The team was specially selected and trained tactical to handle any situation that could threaten the safety of the students and staff of Willis I.S.D. Being apart of a successful school district such as Willis I.S.D. is a big responsibility for not only the teachers and administrators but for all employees from Transportation, Food Service, Maintenance, to Substitutes. Therefore, it is important for all personnel of Willis I.S.D. to undergo specialized training in steps that help give them a plan of survival if the need were to arise. We feel that safety is a high priority and preparation is the key to limit unnecessary victims.
The S.R.T. is currently under the leadership of Tim Cade a Sergeant in the Willis I.S.D. Division. The team trains monthly on all campuses. Sgt. Cade instructs all school employees on critical incident procedures. Our team over the years, has had the wonderful opportunity to train at Texas A&M and Fort Hood with other Special Response Teams such as Harker Heights Police SRT, Huntsville Police Department SRT, and Bryan Police Department SWAT. Our training prepares us to think tactically with the full understanding that our student's lives come first.
