In speech therapy we have been "Celebrating Good Speech."  It's interesting to note that speech therapy not only teaches students to use sounds correctly, but it also teaches skills which will make them better communicators.  These may include learning new words and how to use them, listening and comprehension skills, and grammar skills.  They may also include techniques for a smoother flow of speech and ways to use the voice more effectively.  Some students need to learn to comunicate their basic wants and needs through modes besides talking, such as sign language, gestures, or a picture symbol communication system.  I will periodically be giving information on this website about speech and language development and some things you can do at home to enhance your child's communication skills.
